Kingdom of Macedon- Demetrius I Poliorcetes 306-283bc Of all the contending generals who fought to claim Alexander the Great’s empire. Demetrius was the most colorful, he became known as the “Besieger of Cities” serving his father as a general and a deputy sometime in his teens. After many years of victories and alliances, In 285bc Seleucus I Nikator defeated Demetrius. He was place in honorable captivity or luxury prison somewhere in Syria. He died in 283 BC at the age of 46, and thought to have drank himself to death. Demetrius I Poliorcetes was one of the great generals of the Hellenistic era.
