Each SS Central America specimen has been certified by PCGS in a special gold foil label, and comes with a matching Certificate of Authenticity and Leather display book. Until the discovery of the SS Central America, Double Eagles from the 1850’s were virtually unavailable, or extremely pricey. It has been estimated that the Central America carried about $150 Million worth of gold or 1/3 of all the gold mined in California that year.
