1889-CC $20 Liberty NGC AU55 Carson City Gold - Better Date Carson City Gold.
--
Coining operations at the Carson City Mint resumed in October 1889 having been closed since March 1885 for storage and assay purposes. Only open the final three months of the year, the Mint was able to produce 30, 945 Double Eagles. Experts believe that less than 1,000 of these gold coins survive in all grades.
This attractive AU55 example is sharply struck with nice original orange-gold color and luster. It was recently purchased raw out of a collection from the 1980's and has been conservatively graded by NGC. This coin is everything you'd expect from this Wild West Mint.
