The Wells Fargo discovery produced a remarkable group of beautifully preserved 1908 No Motto Double Eagles, many apparently protected from circulation for generations. The finest survivors became legendary among Saint-Gaudens collectors—and MS68 represents the absolute upper echelon of preservation.
This example exhibits the qualities collectors demand at this lofty grade: intense original mint luster, rich golden coloration, an exceptionally clean appearance, and tremendous overall eye appeal.
